North American Herb & Spice was founded in 1999 by Judy Kay Gray, with the idea that nourishment from raw wholefoods is the key to maintaining optimal health. Today those founding ideals serve as the basis for more than 130 unique products which are highly nourishing and naturally powerful. Throughout the years North American Herb & Spice has exemplified quality in all the ingredients used to formulate its products. From the remote mountains of the Mediterranean to the valleys of the Amazon rainforest, North American Herb & Spice has sourced the finest fruits, herbs, and spices in the world.
Wild handpicked spices such as the oregano used in Oreganol P73 are the cornerstone of their product line. The phenolic compounds found in these spices have been revered since antiquity for their powerful effects. These whole, raw spices are steam distilled using the same processes used for generations, capturing the concentrated essential oil at often astounding ratios. These concentrated spice oils are then emulsified in extra virgin olive oil at the perfect ratio for power and palatability. The end result is the purest, most powerful spice extracts made from ingredients free from pesticides, chemicals, and solvents.
The North American Herb & Spice company provides and expansive range of the kind of products we are passionate about. Their integrity, dedication and commitment to providing only the highest quality products shines through (especially when you try these products… they are powerful!)
Why is North American Herb & Spice P73 Oreganol so good?
Wild Oregano Oil P73 is a blend of edible species of wild oregano grown on natural mineral rich soils. The growing conditions along with their dedication to a chemical and alcohol free extraction gives the P73 Oreganol oil a unique chemical profile, which is ideal for human consumption. This same oregano species can be grown elsewhere and not have the same effect as the P73; it is truly one of a kind.
Benefits of Oregano oil
Acts as an antioxidant. There are billions of chemical reactions occurring in the human body every day and as these chemical reactions occur, free radicals can be formed. Free radicals can be defined as any atom (e.g. oxygen, nitrogen) with at least one unpaired electron in the outermost shell, and is capable of independent existence. Once a free radical has been formed it can trigger a sequence of chemical reactions that can be thousands of events long. This means that if left unchecked by powerful antioxidants (they mop up free radicals by giving them an electron, this seems to calm them down!) each free radical can do allot of cellular damage which can lead to disease.
Anti fungal and anti bacterial properties of oregano oil Oregano oil is known for its powerful anti bacterial, anti fungal and anti parasitic properties and has been used medicinally for thousands of years. Oregano oil contains a host of chemicals that have been shown to contribute to its potent healing potential. Phenols, such as carvacrol and thymol are biocides which mean that they zap harmful organisms thus giving the oil its anti bacterial properties. Both carvacol and thymol are also powerful antioxidants. There are a host of other chemicals such as terpenes, which include piene and terpinene which have antiseptic and antioxidant properties. Linalool and bonreol add to the antiviral and antiseptic qualities and esterslinalyl and geranyl are potent antifungal agents. Alongside its long list of powerful components oregano oil also has an impressive array of minerals including iron, potassium, calcium, zinc, boron, magnesium and copper.
Potential cautions when taking oregano oil
- Oil of oregano acts as a blood thinning agent so if you take oregano oil with blood thinning drugs your blood pressure could drop too low and may become too thin. Check with your doctor before using.
- Oil of oregano is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
There are many more claims of the healing powers of oregano oil however these ones are consistent with research on the chemical components of the oil.
How to take oregano oil
Some people recommend that oregano oil should never be taken neat and that it should be diluted. I personally like the overwhelming flavour and so take two drops neat under the tongue! I then drink some water to wash it down. If you want a milder dose then dilute it by mixing it 50/50 with unrefined coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil.
