Top Supplements to Increase Energy

Posted by Marie-Eve Maitland on 23rd Nov 2022

As the winter months draw on, it's common for people to see their energy levels depleting, and winter tiredness increasing. This can be due to a whole host of contributing factors, including the lack of sunlight hours, disrupted sleep cycles and colder temperatures. Not only can this dampen your festive spirit as Christmas comes ever closer, but for some, it can completely affect their day-to-day functioning.

However, it's not all doom and gloom! You can help to cure your winter lethargy by including some natural supplements into your daily routine and give yourself a natural boost of energy to get you through the colder months.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha. Ashwagandha is one of the most important medicinal herbs in Indian Ayurveda, one of the world's oldest medicinal systems. The way Ashwagandha works enhancing your body’s resilience to physical and mental stress and in turns helps you preserve your energy for you day to day life.
Studies (and many sub studies) have showed that those who took ashwagandha scored better on fatigue, stress & anxiety levels too.

If it is stress that has you feeling exhausted, give ashwagandha a try. As a bonus, recent studies have shown that ashwagandha may help to reduce food cravings and support weight management.

And some of our favourites...

B Vitamins Complex

B VITAMINS! And not just B12

Vitamin B12 is one of the most important vitamins required by every cell in the body. Not only does B12 help with your metabolism, but it can, in turn, increase your energy levels with regular consumption. This natural supplement is easy to incorporate in your lifestyle either with easy to swallow tablets or sprays, as well as by maintaining a healthy and balanced diet.

B-complex vitamins are often used to reduce fatigue and boost mood. Some studies suggest that B vitamins can lift your spirits and improve your cognitive performance.

And we have lots to choose from, from B Vitamin Complex to B12 on its own.

CoQ10

An often-forgotten supplement but one that is worth looking into. CoQ10 is there to assist in energy creation. CoQ10 is a compound made by your body and stored in the mitochondria of your cells. The mitochondria oversee producing energy. Therefore, that’s how this supplement may really amplify your energy level.

Not only that but CoQ10 supports overall health (it has benefits for fertility, performance, it’s good for your brain and for your lungs – to name but a few) and protects your body from free radicals. Free radicals can damage cells, causing illness.

MCT Oil

Well known as a source of natural energy, MCT oil is one of the fastest sources of clean body fuel. For example, Love Life Primal Energy MCT Oil contains high quality C8 oil. These C8 chains are rapidly converted into ketone bodies which result in improved energy levels. You can add MCT oil to salads, coffee, smoothies, soups, ect.

And personally I feel the best way to take MCT oil is in Bulletproof Coffee, the combination of coffee and high quality fat It's claimed this will quash appetite, stabilise hunger and provide calories to fuel your morning. MCTs increase energy (and so does coffee!) and endurance, stimulate the metabolism, and boost brain function.

And here is our recipe for the ultiamte Bulletproof Coffee which will do more than just give you that extra energy you crave.

Ingredients

  • 250ml of freshly brewed Coffee
  • 1 Tbsp MCT oil
  • 1 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • Optional - 1 scoop of collagen powder

Directions

To the hot coffee add the MCT Oil, the butter and collagen if using
Mix in a blender until its combined and frothy.

If you are sleeping well (deeply), eating a good variety of food, exercising, drinking enough water, your energy levels should be enough to keep you going (and have some to spare)!

But from time to time, even the heathiest person will have bouts of fatigue and that is absolutely normal.

If your low energy levels are constant, stopping you from living your best life (and you have already tried a few key supplements) and you still can’t pint point why you are feeling tired, maybe a blood test is a good idea. It could be that you are Iron, B12, Vitamin D or Vitamin C deficient. If that is the case increasing said vitamins might be all you need to do.
