How to Boost Your Energy Overnight in 2 Steps

Posted by Henry Maitland on 24th Nov 2016

The last 7 years of writing this blog have been an extraordinary journey of health discovery for me, venturing deeper and deeper in to the core of what real health and wellness is has been and still is a fascinating journey. As I have ventured ever deeper my posts have been more representative of that experience.

My Health Journey did however not start with ceremonial practices and shamanic healing; it started with what I still see today as the foundational principles of health and wellness. As we approach the start of a new year it seems like a good time to Review.

Over the next few months I would like to return to these foundations and rebuild our understanding from the bottom up so that we can see how the whole dynamic of health and wellness can come together to produce a radiant state of physical and emotional freedom. It is this condition that I believe is what many refer to as health although I see that generally this is still poorly represented by the commercial media.

Some of the founding principles of health are so basic, so utterly simple, that many of us just seem to miss them. Instead, we turn to crazy and comparatively complex dietary systems and exercise videos. Spurious claims, empty promises, unrealistic expectations, ridiculous tans… I’m sure you know the sorts of things I’m talking about!

Well, here is a sure-fire way to help yourself to better health: drink enough fresh, clean water every day.

Drink plenty of clean alkaline water.

Easy to do and highly effective, drinking more water is one of the simplest things that anyone can do to improve their energy level and overall state of wellbeing. Why is that? Because water is vital to the billions of chemical reactions that happen in all of the body’s billions of cells all the time. And every single one of those chemical reactions shapes our perception of reality and so in turn our physical health.

Many of us will have heard the basics of good health repeated over and over again. The challenge is to successfully adopt them as an integral part of your daily life. That’s where Evolution Organics come in, we are here to help inspire you to take action and reap the rewards of making these critical changes.

Maintaining a healthy level of hydration is absolutely essential for all of your body’s systems to function optimally. And that’s especially the case when it comes to some of the bigger systems: the digestive system and your brain!

Your digestive system is a critical foundation for whole body health.

I like to use the analogy of intestinal gardening; we need to achieve the correct balance of water, bacteria and enzymes, among other things, to keep our immune system strong and nutritional absorption optimal.

With this in mind, it follows that if you are dehydrated, you won’t be able to digest food so effectively and you will experience reduced nutritional absorption. Now that’s never a good thing but even more so if you’re spending money on high quality supplements and then not really getting the benefit!

But the one aspect of all this that really motivates me to stay hydrated is the prospect of reduced brain function! Now that’s serious. Along with the grey matter dragging a little, not drinking enough water could also lead to us experiencing fatigue and even depression. I would guess that there are a lot of people out there in the world who are taking antidepressant drugs because they are actually chronically dehydrated. Go and grab a glass of healthy alkaline water now and make sure you don’t become one of them.

For optimal physiological function one should be consuming half one’s body weight in ounces of water per day. It’s slightly easier to work it out as your body weight in kilograms multiplied by 0.022. So, for example, I weigh 90kg and therefore need 1.98 litres of water per day. For simplicity’s sake, I therefore aim to drink 2 litres of fresh filtered alkaline or bottled water (glass bottled)  every day.

There are many considerations to take into account when increasing your water intake the main one being to take it slowly. Perhaps build up by increasing the amount you drink by one cup per day until you reach your target.

If you find that your increased drinking means that you need to pee a lot more initially, then keep persisting as your body will adjust. I see this rather like pouring water over cry cracked ground, initially you get allot of run off. Then, slowly, with care and persistence one begins so absorb more and more water until one is comfortably hydrated. I have found that it takes around 3 months from chronic dehydration (which is common) to be fully hydrated.

Go to bed on time!

I am very aware that the concepts of drinking enough water and going to bed on time are not exactly revolutionary. However, they are absolutely fundamental to experiencing good health, achieving optimal weight loss and feeling energised.

You may laugh, but I know for a fact that many of us stay up late watching TV, often while also eating sugary or high carbohydrate snacks. While that may feel relaxing, it’s not doing your body much good.

It’s generally considered by a wide range of authors on the subject that a good night’s sleep lasts from 10pm to 6am, a healthy 8 hours. This will obviously vary between people, depending on different lifestyles and personal circumstances. However, it is a good target to aim for.

There are two primary hormones that work to regulate our wake and sleep cycles. One wakes us up; the other helps us to sleep.

In an ideal world, experts suggest that we should start to wind down around 6pm – which includes dimming the lights and turning the TV off. This helps to promote the release of melatonin, which helps us to feel sleepy. We should then aim to be asleep by 10pm. Between 10pm and 2am, we will benefit from physical repair of the body, followed by psychological repair between 2am and 6am.

Getting enough sleep is essential to good health

The idea is quite simple. If we don’t get enough sleep, we don’t get healing and recovery time – and the body suffers as a result. This is why sleep deprivation is such a widely used and effective torture method. Are you self-inflicting effective torture on your body?

Getting a good night’s sleep will do wonders for optimising weight loss, promoting healing in your body, aiding recovery after exercise, improving your mental capacity and boosting your energy levels throughout the day. And those are just a few of the benefits. As ever, because optimal sleep is a foundation principle, it affects almost everything with respect to your overall health and wellbeing.

The combination of beginning the process of getting optimally hydrated and going to bed on time could literally, overnight change how you feel giving you a lighter more energised perception and begin the process of restoring base levels of critical health and wellness that will amplify the effect of all your other health and wellness strategies.

It is my experience that health is found in the little things, the small changes that we make and stick to. It is a process to be enjoyed as we discover more about our potential in the world, I have discovered that the healthier I have become the closer to the edge of my potential I can skate.

In health and happiness
