Brightening and detox mask - only 3 ingredients!

Posted by Marie-Eve Maitland on 5th Jul 2018

I love a mask... I really do but the majority of the ones found on the market are full of stuff that I truly believe don't belong there and let's face it, they are often very expensive. Wouldn't it be great if you could make it yourself? Well now you can. It's cheap, easy and the results are pretty darn good too.

I don't like bitty face masks or ones that take for ages to dry. I want something I can lather on and carry on doing my daily chores whilst it dries (inside the house mind you... this one is bright green!).

What's in there?

Simple... Aloe Vera gel (either fresh* or from a bottle), manuka honey and spirulina. That's it. And here is why it's all you need:

Aloe vera gel

One of my must have and we are lucky enough to sell Dr Mercola's version which spreads on smooth and is as pure as you can find (unless you have a plant with large leaves). Aloe Vera is soothing, aids your overall immune function (your first line of defense is your skin so having it in tip top shape is essential). Aloe Vera also helps produce collagen and elastin.

Tip : I use aloe Vera gel to prevent a sunburn if I have been out all day. I use it on flyaway hair to smooth it over. I mix 1:4 aloe and water and spray it on my face daily to prevent dryness. I use it as shaving cream. And now and again I slather some on my face first thing in the morning whilst I get ready. I wipe it before I leave the house and that's it.

Manuka honey

Manuka honey has anti-inflammatory properties so can dramatically reduce redness and heal inflamed skin and eczema. It's also widely used for it's anti-ageing benefits. Manuka honey is also incredibly moisturizing so your skin will stay moisturised but not oily, the first step in wrinkle-free skin and complexion.

Spirulina

A powerhouse of a superfood. A rich green algae which helps eliminate toxins from our body and boost our immune system. On the skin, spirulina helps to encourage skin renewal, brighten up the complexion, is incredibly anti inflammatory, helps to skin retain moisture and spirulina is also deep cleansing.

Combine all of the ingredient together and you have a mask to make your skin feel refreshed, clean and smooth... Perfect.

  5. Leave the skin makeup free and lotion free for at least 30 minutes.*If you are lucky enough to use fresh aloe Vera, you will need to put it in a blender until smooth.
