Damiana Leaf, Turnera diffusa  Common names: Damina, Mexican damiana, Damiane, oreganillo, the bourrique, Mexican holly, damiana de Gerrero. Damiana leaves come from a small shrub that’s found throughout Mexico, Central America and the West Indies, as well as parts of South America. This shrub has pale yellow flowers that bloom in early to late summer. However, the most important part of the plant is its leaves, which are harvested during the flowering season. The leaves contain essential oil, resins, tannins, starch, arbutin, barterin and a bitter substance known as damianin.

Damiana has a long history of herbal uses around the world. It is believed that the Mexican Indians used the leaves to make a drink, added sugar, and drank it for its power as a natural aphrodisiac. Today, the dried leaves of the plant are also used to make a tea infusion.
