How to take MCT oil

With so many health supplements available today, it’s important to learn what could be the best fit for your specific requirements.

MCT oil is a product you may have seen online or in your local health store. But how much do you know about it?

If you’re wondering about the potential benefits of this oil and how to take it, Evolution Organics can help fill in the blanks for you.

Our latest blog gives you all you need to know, as well as the best way to take MCT oil and add it to your day-to-day.

What is MCT oil?

MCT oil is the name for oil comprised of medium-chain triglycerides. These are medium-length, chains of fats that can be more easily digested by the body.

Most fats are long-chain triglycerides (LCT). These long chain fatty acids take longer to be digested by the body, and require substances such as bile or pancreatic enzymes.

But MCT oil is a saturated fat that the body finds far easier to absorb. This brings about a host of reported health benefits (more on these later).

How do I take MCT Oil?

MCT oil is typically delivered in liquid form, although you can also use MCT oil powders.

It can be quite powerful, so if you’ve not taken it before, we advise starting out by just adding a teaspoon to your daily intake.

Too much too soon and you could develop some abdominal discomfort. Also, if you have a certain condition you worry might be affected by taking MCT oil, seek medical advice before doing so.

A great way to add it to your day-to-day is taking it with coffee or warm drinks. We’re big fans of adding MCT oil to Bulletproof coffee for example to deliver a real physical boost for your mind and body.

It can also be added to other warm drinks, and after the first few days you can up your intake to a tablespoon.

You can also add it to smoothies and shakes, as well as salad dressings and vinaigrette with ease.

MCT powder can also easily be added to coffees, shakes and smoothies.

What benefits can taking MCT Oil bring?

Health benefits of MCT oil include many dietary factors and certain conditions.

Anybody looking to lose weight should consider this as a possible dietary supplement. MCT oil has been found to promote weight loss and lower body fat due to its ability to help release hormones in your body that make you feel full.

One popular usage is as part of a ketogenic diet. The principle of a keto diet is for the body to enter ‘ketosis’. This is where your body produces ketones as an energy source from fatty acids, allowing you to start fat burning and ultimately fat loss.

MCT oil can act as a complementary energy source, as well as being transformed by your body into ketones.

MCT oil can also be used generally as a way to increase energy. It can potentially help manage tackle conditions including type 1 and type 2 diabetes and heart disease, as this study showed

MCT oil vs Coconut oil

Both MCT oil and Coconut oil have health benefits.

Most MCT oils are extracted from coconut oil, but coconut oil itself also contains LCTs. That means this is the option with fewer hard to digest fats contained within it.

So if you’re looking to really capitalise on the benefits of MCTs, MCT oil is likely best.

But coconut oil is a pretty good form of saturated fat too. It can also help you lose weight, increase your skin health, and the lauric acid it contains can help remove bacteria and viruses
