Enjoy the healing power of the sun

As the summer begins to truly set in and thoughts turn to sunny holidays and more time outside the concerns about how to stay healthy in the sun can arise. We all want to enjoy the sun, and so we should, for many of us there is nothing better than spending our free time enjoying life on a sunny Sunday afternoon :  )

Enjoy the sun without the burn!

We do however need to be a careful in the sun as our skin, if left unprotected, can easily burn potentially leading to both short and long term damage.

So what actions can we take to make sure we’re staying healthy in the sun?

Protecting our skin against the harmful UV rays of the sun gets a lot of press these days and so it should. There are the obvious short term effects of too much exposure to the sun such as sunburn. However there are many long term health concerns that we need to be careful of such as thinning of the skin which can lead to fine wrinkles, easy bruising, and skin tearing. We can also get freckles and liver spots. These larger areas of change in the pigmentation of the skin are not always age related but can be due to long term UV exposure. The changes that we hear the most about are of course cancer and this is where the right skin protection can become ever more crucial.
Having said this it is important to remember that getting some sun is good for us, just don’t overcook it! When we spend time in the sun the body produces the most active form of vitamin D that has these benefits:

  • Support your cardiovascular health
  • Promote optimal cholesterol levels
  • Enhance your muscle strength
  • Help produce optimal blood pressure levels
  • Help maintain a healthy immune system
  • Support healthy kidney function
  • Promote healthy teeth
  • Help keep your bones strong

Getting the right sun lotion and when is it good to use it?

It makes a lot of sense that we should not use sun screen or sun block the whole time, after all we want to be getting the benefits of that lovely Vitamin D. If for any reasons you are not getting enough Vitamin D it’s worth considering increasing your levels with a natural organic supplement. You can find an excellent range of both Organic chemical free sun lotions and vitamin D supplements right here are the Evolution organics shop at very reasonable prices.

It has also been shown that exposure to the sun where we have not been burned reduces our chance of getting a multitude of different cancers, however if we get burned, and depending of the severity of the burn, it can increase our chance of getting skin cancer.

So the answer is only to use sun screen when in a situation that may lead to burning and so damage to your skin form over exposure.

  1. Getting the correct sun lotion

As with a majority of commercial skin care products many sun lotions contain toxic ingredients. It is incredible that many companies still get away with using these chemicals in their products.

The main chemical used in many commercial sun screens to filter out ultraviolet B light is Octyl methoxycinnamate. According to Dr Mercola’s article on the chemicals in sun lotions OMC  (Octyl methoxycinnamate)  was found to kill mouse cells even at low doses plus it was shown to be even more toxic when exposed to the sun!

OMC is only one of 13 potentially harmful chemicals found in many commercial sun lotions.

Evolution Organics sells an all natural range of sun lotions such as Alba Botanica, Dr Mercola & Green People right here at very reasonable prices. All will nourish, protect, and moisturize your skin. They contain all the advantages of commercial lotions with none of the chemicals. Problem solved.

  1. Make sure your natural resilience to the sun is high.

If you have not come across Astaxathin then it is certainly worth a little research, it’s a very powerful product.

Astaxanthin contains a powerful antioxidant called Carotenoid, believed to be one of the most potent antioxidants found in nature. It’s this carotenoid super nutrient that has the potential in helping to reduce the signs of normal aging.

As mentioned earlier spending time in the sun is great from the perspective of producing powerful Vitamin D however not so good if you get over exposed and burnt.

By adding antioxidants to your diet to help combat sun-induced free radicals in your skin, you can help to potentially avoid…

  • Premature skin aging
  • Excessive wrinkling
  • Skin Dryness
  • Excessive number of age spots
  • Proliferation of freckles

Right here at evolution organics you can find a range of Astaxanthin products from sun screens and after sun lotions containing this powerful antioxidant to the actual Astaxathin supplement itself for both you and your pets!

  1. Drink enough fresh clean water to stay optimally hydrated every day.

Staying well hydrated is a day to day foundation of great vibrant health however it’s even more important when the weather is hot and so the demands on your body go up. The general opinion is that we should take our weight in kg and multiply it by 0.022 giving us the amount of water we should consume each day in litres to stay hydrated. I weigh 90kg and so need about 2 litres of water per day. I personally find that if it’s very hot or if I am working out I need more.

Some people also like to add a pinch of high quality Himalayan crystal salt or sea salt to their water to raise the mineral content. This has a very significant effect as salt is critical to the regulation of water levels (and many other systems) in the human body. By adding a pinch of high quality salt to your water you are ensuing better hydration and so balance on these hot summers days.

You will find right here at Evolution Organics a great range of water filtration systems, bottles, and crystal salts for all your hydration needs.

So make sure you drink enough water, get the right natural skin protection and consider Astaxanthin for optimal health in the sun!

In health and happiness
