I’m big on the idea of having as many of what I call ‘health interventions’ in my day as possible. It’s essential to do the big stuff such as getting a good night sleep, staying hydrated, taking some time out for meditation/contemplation and getting a little exercise. However there are so many small changes that we can enjoy making over many years that combine together to achieve higher levels of health and wellness.

I see a health intervention as taking something bad or not so good out of our diet and replacing it with something excellent. So an example would be replacing your tap/bottled water by a high quality filtered water, or having a wheatgrass shot in the morning rather than an espresso shot. These are great health interventions! (Although I have to say that Bullet proof coffee does rule!)

One of my favourite health interventions is using coconut oil, it’s seriously incredible stuff. I use it whilst cooking my breakfast every morning and also add It to shakes and smoothies or sometimes, if I’m feeling up for it I eat a spoon full straight from the tub. I took a not so good cooking oil (olive oil) out of my diet and added in an incredible health intervention. There is no extra cost to me as I already bought the oil; I’m just getting more health benefit for my cash and another little health intervention to build the overall picture of health and wellness. I love it.  

So why is Coconut Oil so good and why should I add this to my diet?

Coconut oil truly packs a punch in terms of its single handed contribution to optimal health. It’s said to have benefits for hair & skin care and can have stress relief capacities. It also helps to increase your immune strength and improve digestive function and metabolism. 

These benefits and many more are attributed to the actions of Lauric acid as well as Capric acid and Caprylic acid which are the super health boosting medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil. Coconut oil also has antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal and antibacterial properties. In short it’s a true super food and great to add into your diet as a powerful health intervention: minimal effort maximum return!

Coconut oil contains fewer calories than other oils; its fat content is easily converted into energy and so actively contributes towards optimizing weight loss by boosting your metabolism. Coconut oil helps to boost energy levels and endurance, and so can enhance ones performance on a day to day basis.

Coconut oil is also the best oil to fry with as it can take the heat without being damaged. Other oils such as olive oils are damaged by heat and lose most if not all their health benefits.
