5 Steps for a more Eco Friendly lifestyle

5 Steps for a more Eco Friendly lifestyle

Posted by Marie-Eve Maitland on 14th Jun 2021

Nowadays we can't help but hear about our planet and how we need to protect and as one of the inhabitant of this blue and green wonder, it's really worth listening and doing our bit.

Evolution Organics has always done its best to be as Eco Friendly as possible. We reuse most of our packing material and when we buy it, we source recyclable, bio degradable versions such as corn-starch based loose filling chips, paper tape instead of plastic and recycled box.

We work closely with DPD as well.  As a responsible company, DPD are committed to ensuring that environmental management is a key priority. As delivery experts, our aim is to make a positive impact on the environment through what we do each and every day.

Things get busy as home, we get it, but we have a few easy swaps you could do that would help make your lifestyle a tad greener.

1. Plastic

We can't say it enough but ditch the plastic water bottles!

Use a water filter such as  Berkey. This will not only improve the quality of your water but it's better than having to recycle (or worst, throw away) a water bottle.

Also, to carry your water, get a nice reusable water bottle such as  Cheeki.

Plastic/Cling Film... That's another one. Not only can plastic (non BPA) be harmful to your health, it's also not good for our planet. Plastic food wrap ends up on landfill and has also been found in our oceans, rivers, seas. Plastic does not degrade and can be harmful to wildlife and/or fish.

Best thing to do is to stop use cling film. Simply don't buy it. Use reusable containers with lids or cover your dish with a plate before putting in the fridge. Use  stainless steel lunch boxes or paper snack bags for sandwiches (If You Care is brilliant for that).

And one other option is  WaxWraps. Reusable, eco-friendly and entirely biodegradable. WaxWrap is the perfect solution for our current battle against single use plastics. One pack of WaxWraps can replace 200 meters of plastic wrap all while preserving your food fresher!

2. Nature

Plant lots of bee friendly plants and flowers in your garden.

Bees are vital for the preservation of ecological balance and biodiversity in nature. They provide one of the most recognisable ecosystem services, i.e. pollination, which is what makes food production possible. By doing so, they protect and maintain ecosystems as well as animal and plant species, and contribute to genetic and biotic diversity. (ref: World Bee Day website)

Even better, if you can, get a compost bin!

3. Reef Safe

Look out for Sunscreen and also Fish Oil that are Reef Friendly and safe. Brands like  Alteya OrganicsJĀSÖN and Alba Botanica offer a reef safe alternative and Aqua Biome supports Mote Marine's coral reef rebuilding program.

4. Get moving

Instead of driving, try cycling, walking or running to work. If that is not possible, try public transports or car sharing.

I cycle to work daily. Between 6 and 9 miles each way. I need to be organised. It takes me longer to get here and I can't say I always enjoy it but its a great form of exercise and I feel like I am helping in my own way.

5. Cleaning

When it comes to cleaning, here are a few swaps you can make.

A. Use Water & Vinegar to clean your windows (and wipe away with crunched up newspaper that then can go in your compost bin or food waste)

B. If you have a blocked drain rely on vinegar, bicarb and boiling water.

C. Use  Dr Bronners Sal Suds. They are perfect for general household cleaning (dishes, floors, laundry, etc.), it cleans and rinses with exceptional power, yet it is mild and gentle on the skin. Sal Suds Liquid Cleaner is equally effective in hard or soft water, rinsing freely, hot or cold.

D. Need to freshen the air in your home? Open the window or use a non toxic air Freshener such as  Puressentiel or make your own by adding a few drops of your favourite organic essential oil (from Absolute Aromas) to a candle or an oil burner.

E. Lemons! Such a powerful fruit. Use them to scrub chopping board (dip in salt before) or use around the house to deodorise, clean, scrubs and polish.

F. Buy eco friendly brands. Many supermarkets now have sections dedicated to eco friendly solutions.

And there's lots more you can do to help. Get your children involved too. Make it fun and they will thank you later.

In health,
