4 steps to optimal digestion

4 steps to optimal digestion

How many times have you suffered from bloat, indigestion and heartburn? Chances are you have on more than one occasion. Sometimes digestive issues can be caused by the food we eat or drink, it can be emotional (stress), or it can also be genetic (such as IBS, Crohn's). There are many reasons.

To minimise these complaints, we've put together a few steps to help you achieve the best digestion possible and in turn get the more out of your food.

Step 1 : Chew chew chew - the majority of us do not chew our food properly. We inhale it but chewing is so important. This is the first digestion step. Your teeth are there to chew food in smaller bits so it can be more easily broken down by your digestive juices and enzymes - Help them out! Chewing each mouthful 20-30 before swallowing is a good start. You are also less likely to overeat.

Step 2: Decide where and how you will eat your food. Like many people I love sitting on the sofa and eat my dinner in front of the TV. It's relaxing but that could really have a noticeable impact on your digestion. If you are not paying attention to your food, you will most likely forget step 1 (chewing).

Step 3: Being active! Go for a walk after you eat if you can or if you can't leave the house, try doing some yoga stretches.

Step 4: Supplements - We recommend only 2. A good quality probiotics and also a Digestive Enzyme.

Probiotics:

Bio-Kult Probiotic Multi-Strain Formula - 120 capsules

Renew Life Florabiotic Everyday 15 Billions - 30 capsules

Naked Biotics Restore or Symprove Live & Active Bacteria

Digestive Enzyme:

Enzymedica Digest Complete - 30 capsules

Renew Life DigestMore Ultra Enzymes - 90 capsules

Last note: if you suffer from any type of indigestion on a regular basis it's worth starting a food journal to see if certain foods might trigger it. Seeing your medical practitioner is also highly recommended and chances are they will ask you to do this too.
