A bit more about... Probiotics

Healthy Bacteria for a Happy Tummy
The word "probiotic" originates from the Greek signfication for "life". The definition given by the World Health Organisation (WHO), probiotics are microorganisms that, when consumed in sufficient quantities, confer beneficial effects to their host. There has been considerable research into probiotics over the last 20 years and today, it has been clearly established that probiotics help normalise the balance of intestinal flora. The principal actions of probiotics are:

•The production of substances that inhibit pathogenic bacteria
•The modulation of the immune system
•The inhibition of the adhesion of pathogenic bacteria to the intestinal wall
•A direct impact on neuromuscular activity

There are different types of probiotics and each type has a different potential to achieve these benefits. The probiotic strain we use in our Probiotic Chocolate Ombars, is bifidobacterium lactis. Two key benefits of this strain that have been established are that it:

•Maintains the intestinal barrier
•Prevents infections by certain pathogens
Of course all this is only good if by the time you eat the chocolate it has enough probiotics in it to do you some good. To this end, we work with our supplier to get the dosage exactly right - based on the shelf life of Ombars, how we make them and the temperatures involved in processing. In addition to that, our supplier is testing our bars every month to make sure the probiotics are still present in the quantities needed to confer the desired benefits.

Dairy Free?
The 'lacto' part of the name of the strain refers to lactic acid rather than lactose. The product specification for this product declares that it is free from dairy.

Delivery

Our delivery charges depend on where you'd like us to send your purchase, and how much it weighs. When you get to the basket page, we'll ask you where you'd like us to deliver to; we'll then show you how much your delivery charge will be.

If you want to organise your own shipping at your own cost, let us know and we will do all we can to help or you can also pick up your goods from our offices, Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm. Get in touch to arrange.

We don't currently publish how much our products weigh, but if you'd like any information on this, please just get in touch.

UK delivery charges

  • Delivery to a UK mainland address costs from £2.50 up to £7.00 (it will NEVER go above that rate in UK Mainland), depending on how much your purchase weighs
  • Delivery to an address in the Highlands, Islands, Guernsey or Jersey costs from £2.50 up to £15.00 - also dependent on weight
  • Shipping has increased by over 10% in April 2012 but we have kept our UK prices the same and will do all we can so you don't have to pay more...

When do I get my order?

  • If we receive your order before 2pm we'll deliver it to you by first-class post that same day. The exception is if the delivery charge is £7: then we'll send it to you by courier and they'll collect it from us the next working-day
  • The courier companies that we use include City Link, UPS, Yodel and TNT
  • You should receive your orders within 1-2 working days once the order has been picked up, but it can take longer if your delivery time goes over a weekend or a bank holiday

Delivery to Europe

  • Delivery to EU countries costs from £3.00 up to £20.00 for bigger and heavier orders
  • Unfortunately, we had to increase our shipping charges to the EU, especially to Malta and Cyprus. However, if we find that the shipping has cost us less, we are more than happy to refund the difference.

When do I get my order?

  • You should receive your order within 3-5 working days.
  • In the EU, DHL, TNT and Parcel Force do not deliver to PO boxes.
  • Once again, it might take longer if your order goes during a bank holiday or week end...

Packing

We do our very best to recycle cardboard boxes and use biodegradable loosefill packing chips. These are manufactured from starch-based polystyrene that begins to decompose when wet for a period of time. Please recycle your packaging after you receive your order.

Evolution Organics special offers

Many of the products on special offer are close to their sell-by dates. They will be within their sell-by dates for enough time for you to use them as stated on the packaging.

For example, if you buy a one-month supply of Krill Oil on special offer you'll have at least one-month before it goes out of date. Please check the advertised dates on the product page before you buy it to ensure it fits with your plans for use.

Evolution Organics Return Policy

We very much hope you will be pleased with your purchase. Should you wish to return anything bought from us, we will be happy to refund or exchange a product provided if it is in fully resalable condition for up to 14 days.

In addtion, under the Distance Selling Regulations, during the 7 day cancellation period, the customer will be refunded all monies including the postage and packaging cost should he/she want to.

Products we are unable to refund or exchange:

We are unable to offer a refund or exchange on any nutritional products if they have been opened unless they are faulty in some way. We are also unable to offer refunds after 14 days. *Please see the note above on the Distance Selling Regulations.

How long will it take to receive a refund from returned products?

Refunds will usually reach your account within 7 working days. Timing will, however, depend on the speed with which your credit/debit card company processes the credit. In some cases, we might send you a cheque for the item(s) returned if the amount has already been processed by our bank.
